With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season still a few weeks away, fall is the perfect time to explore all of the recreational and shopping opportunities available in your city. Carytown is bursting with fun things to do, including both family-friendly and adult-oriented activities. To help you decide where to start, here are a few local excursions our real estate agents think you'll love.

Sing Your Heart Out on Karaoke Night at New York Deli

New York Deli hosts a karaoke night at 9 PM every Thursday, and you're invited! Almost 100 years old and known for its incredible sandwiches, this casual bar-style restaurant is a joy to visit anytime. Stop by for a late-night snack or a drink and sing along to some of your favorite tunes.

The restaurant stays open until 1 AM on these nights, so you'll have plenty of time to kick back and relax even if you arrive late.

Catch a Movie at the Byrd Theater

The Byrd Theater is one of Virginia's oldest movie theaters still in operation. Built in the style of old-fashioned "movie palaces," this gorgeous vintage building offers screenings of both new and old movies for just $9 per ticket.

This month's line-up is Halloween-themed and includes legendary horror films like Scream, The Exorcist and Get Out, as well as family-friendly hits like Scooby-Doo and Monster House. Check their website for detailed showtimes and to see which other fun films they've got on the docket.

Shop for Goodies at the Carytown Farmers Market

October is the last month of operation for the Carytown Farmers Market in 2025. Every Sunday this month from 9 AM to 1 PM, head down to City Stadium to shop for:

  • Fresh seasonal produce from local growers, including apples, potatoes, pumpkins, broccoli and Swiss chard
  • Artisanal small-batch goods like cheese, bread, honey and baked treats

There will also be live music from local bands to entertain you while you shop and several food trucks parked nearby where you can purchase something delicious for lunch.
